Birthmarks

Birthmarks are benign growths on the skin that can appear near the time of birth. They can differ in size, location, appearance, and origin depending on the individual. Birthmarks are caused by overgrowth of blood vessels, melanocytes, smooth muscle, fat, fibroblasts, or keratinocytes. They are usually classified into two types: pigmented birthmarks and vascular birthmarks. Despite the irregularities, these marks are not harmful; however, please consult with our Dermatologist for an official diagnosis and treatment plan.
