What is Botox?
Botox and other similar wrinkle reducers like Dysport® and Xeomin® temporarily reduce the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles. The formulas are made from a purified form of botulinum toxin and, when strategically injected, halt muscle movements that contribute to the signs of aging.
Botox and other similar injectables have undergone extensive research and are approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.
What types of wrinkles can Botox address?
When injected, Botox and its competitors block the nerve signals that create certain muscle movements. Consider Botox to address wrinkling and lines in the upper face like:
Crow’s feet around the eyes
Horizontal forehead lines
The “elevens,” or worry lines, between the brows
Dr. Olowoyeye may use Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to treat vertical neck cords, chin dimpling, and lines around the mouth. She’ll assess your facial anatomy and line characteristics to determine the best way to apply the injectables.
Who is a candidate for Botox?
Anyone interested in brightening their resting facial expression and looking younger and more relaxed is a candidate for cosmetic Botox injections.
You do need to be at least 18 to receive Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin injections. While most people who opt for these injectable treatments already have some wrinkle and line development, women in their 20s and 30s may choose Botox as a possible wrinkle preventer. By easing facial movement, the injections inhibit wrinkles from starting to develop.
What should I expect during a Botox treatment session?
The entire Botox appointment lasts just 15-30 minutes. You’ll sit in a comfortable treatment chair and have your face briefly cleansed of makeup or perspiration. Dr. Olowoyeye examines your facial structure and marks the strategic sites for injection.
Injectable wrinkle reducers are applied with a very fine needle and you can expect to feel a pinch with each application. Discuss the option of using ice or a topical numbing cream prior to treatment if you’re especially concerned about discomfort.
Following your treatment, you can go right back to all your daily activities. Expect to see some noticeable results after 24-48 hours. Your full results develop within about two weeks. At that point, you can come in for an evaluation to make sure you’re happy with your treatment.
The results of Botox and the other injectables last three to four months, depending on the formula used, the area treated, and how your body responds. After that, come back to Radiance Dermatology for retreatments to maintain your fresh, youthful look.
